Best Sights & Activities -(Beaches)
Balmoral Beach
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
Mosman
Sydney 2088

Description:
Named for the British royal family's estate in Scotland, this beach was a camp for artists and writers until the early 1900s, when the government came in and tidied up everything. If you get tired of swimming, you can always rent a sailboard or take a sailing lesson as a diversion. During the summer months (January and February, down south), you'll find seaside performances of Shakespeare's works. And, the beach's many restaurants boast fabulous views of the water. BUS: 238 or 258 to Balmoral.

Bondi Beach
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
Campbell Parade
Ben Buckler 2026

Description:
BONDI BEACH. Possibly the most photographed beach in the area, crescent-shaped Bondi is more than a half-mile long. It's a great place for swimming, and it also has historical significance as the home of Olympic beach volleyball and the site of the first life-saving club in the world (founded in 1906). The beach also marks the beginning of the Bondi to Coogee cliff-top walk. In addition, you'll find plenty of cafes and restaurants along the beach. BUS: 380 or 382 or L82 (limited stops) from Circular Quay.

Bronte Beach
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
Off Bronte Rd
2024
2-9369-8000
Description:
Surfers, grab your boards! This beach has great waves, although if you're not looking to surf, there's still plenty to do. The beach entices families with its excellent playground, weekend model train rides, covered picnic sheds, gas grills, and large grassy areas. The saltwater pool at the southern end of the beach was built in 1887 and is still popular with sunbathers. Cafes across the street proffer satisfying snack foods and drinks. BUS: 378 from Central Station.

Dobroyd Head Sydney Harbour National Park
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
Dobroyd Scenic Dr
Sydney 2093
2-9337-5511
Description:
BALGOWLAH HEIGHTS. Part of the Sydney Harbour National Park, Dobroyd Head is a bushland park featuring walking tracks and tranquil beaches. Visitors enjoy fabulous views over the Harbour, and since the area was Army-protected in past years, the park has been kept free of development. As a result, it's been essentially unchanged since 1788. Grotto Point even maintains some authentic aboriginal rock art. The 10-kilometer "Manly to Spit Bridge Walk" passes through this park as well. BUS: 171 from Wynard Station.

Manly Beach
(Sights & Activities - Beaches)
South Steyne
Sydney 2095

Description:
MANLY. In the late 1800s, Australia saw its first advertising slogan with Manly Beach's ad "Seven miles from Sydney and a Thousand Miles From Care." And given that Manly was Australia's first resort area, it has had plenty of time to create a carefree environment. It's also built up its restaurant and nightlife scene. There are now over 80 restaurants, several great pubs and an interesting art gallery. Manly is located on a peninsular surrounded by the Harbour, the ocean and Sydney Harbour National Park. In June, it hosts the Food and Wine festivals, and in October it's the site of the Manly Jazz Festival. FERRY: from Circular Quay approximately 30 minute ride.
